Project Description:

This project aims to create a virtual then and now tour of the North Carolina State University. The tour educates the user about the university's history by showing historical images of a place and displaying some information about the image. As part of this project, we created seven prototypes, in which each of us created a historical tour of the university.

Project: MindRoom

Description:

Mental health is a growing concern especially on campuses as more and more students report facing stress, anxiety, and even depression while attending college. The lack of awareness among university students to choose the right resources to educate themselves, not only hinders their learning process with respect to mental health, but also makes it difficult for them to identify and support their peers who are facing mental health difficulties.

The Goal of our project is to design a one-stop mobile-based application for university students, which provides all the necessary information to educate themselves regarding mental health and in turn help their peers. In short, MindRoom can be termed as a CPR for mental health.

Project: DataArt

Description:


The goal of this project is to explore ways to help non-technical individuals connect to the story behind data. DataArt aims to create a data visualization in an artistic manner, to go beyond graphs, lines, and charts, and make it beautiful. Any viewer must be able to connect with it. We chose to depict 2 ideas in parallel - weather data, and congregation of people at certain kinds of places based on weather. This project was done in collaboration with SAS. The SAS office in Cary has a 15ft x 2ft display at its lobby, for the purpose of DataArt, where our work is planned to be displayed.

Project: Secure Manufacture UI










Description:

Secmation has developed a Manufacturing Execution System called SAMM to manage, monitor, and execute tasks on different machines in a seamless manner. As a part of the UX course, our main focus was to design a User Interface for monitoring tasks, machines, and capture the security-related aspects in a user-friendly manner. The goal was to help the operators use machines without any struggle.

Project: Digital Family Histories 2



Description:

 

Today's electronic health records are primarily designed for healthcare providers. Yet family health histories are best created by patients, who may come from any demographic. How can digital histories remain effective for such diversity? 

In this project we worked with Optum to research existing family health history solutions and come up with improvements. We chose the ones we thought were best, created a prototype and evaluated it

Caterpillar is known as the Mercedes Benz of construction, and the cabs on their vehicles do not disappoint. Our prime task here is to improve the usability aspects of vehicle by concentrating on
one prime factor of Safety. Caterpillar has set high bar in the market with its product and
providing better user experience in Safety, Comfort, Convenience and Commercial viability. Our main goal is to disrupt the UTV market and to differentiate from the competitors in terms of user experience. Here user experience is considered as a collective improvement in overall usability and safety.

Project: Tractor Experience - KMP



Description:

Caterpillar Inc. is an American Fortune 100 corporation which designs, develops, engineers, manufactures, markets and sells machinery, engines, financial products and insurance to customers via a worldwide dealer network. They are responsible for manufacturing utility vehicles with the goal of being safe, productive, commercially viable, and convenient.

As a team, our goal was to improve the user experience provided by these utility vehicles while improving their safety given they are prone to toppling in rough environmental conditions. Our prototype was aimed at providing more relevant information from the environment to help the driver better judge the driving conditions and safe speeds. With a lot of guidance from Mr. Hedley, our correspondent from Caterpillar and Dr. Watson, our professor, we built mock-ups of our prototype through Photoshop and attempted interactivity via google slides.

Project: IEICommons




Description


The Institute of Emerging Issues located inside the marvelous James B. Hunt Library in the Centennial Campus of NC State University is an organization that raises the consciousness of and seeks solutions to the emerging issues our state is facing. To inform the people about their mission, there is a gigantic screen inside the library which displays information about the current issues and facts.

This project’s aim was to improve the user experience of the huge screen to increase the user base while keeping the content relevant and interesting for different age groups. To achieve the goal, a change of technology was necessary which gave a lot of technological advantages while providing an enhanced user experience. All the design decisions were made based on the current research in the domain of UX. The prototype was developed using the tool - “Figma” which provided the interaction capability.

Description

While approximately 1.3 billion tons of food gets lost or wasted every year [ref], have you ever considered transforming the waste into living soil? MakeSoil is a global movement and platform to transform society, repair our relationship to the planet. It is not only about making soil, it also builds a community for people who care about our planet and models a new regenerative economy by making soil together. 

Our goal is to design and build a prototype for the mobile application of MakeSoil. In addition to the required functions, the prototype is aimed at prompting the communications among users, as well as attracting more people into this significant movement. We built the prototype using Figma under the guidance of Dr. Watson and our client, Tomás Gutiérrez (CTO of MakeSoil). In our prototype, users could register and log in, find soil makers within specific areas, chat and share experience with other users.

Description

ChartNotes
Our app, ChartNotes, provides an easy way to share medical chart information, such as your medical history, with the healthcare providers. The user would use a QR Code to share their information. ChartNotes also includes additional features, such as storing insurance cards and connecting with family, to facilitate the interaction between the patient and the healthcare providers.

Allscripts
We worked with Allscripts, a company that focuses on "building open, connected communities of health" (about Allscripts). Allscripts is making "for healthier patients, populations and communities" by enriching the healthcare society with more accessible health data information, all while keeping the patients and the providers in mind as the users when designing their beautiful software. ChartNotes did not stem from any of Allscripts projects - instead the Allscripts team in North Raleigh kindly worked with us as we designed our own project, attempting to resolve a problem in healthcare. We got to work with an awesome team of UX Designers and Researchers from Allscripts.

Project: Rule of Law Visualization



Description:

One of LexisNexis' goal is improving the global rule of law, which strengthens societal well-being with comprehensive and strongly enforced law.

In this project, our goal is to create a series of engaging stories that connect different aspects of rules of law, open public datasets, and new stories that can be promoted on social media or websites by LexisNexis. Find correlation between rule of law index and other aspects like Education, Health and Economics. Find a story which is interesting and gripping to the common people.

It should catch the eye of experts as well as common public who is not aware of "Rule of Law". We aim to strike a cord with everyone who comes across the final infographic and deliver the correct message.

Our prototypes were mainly built by Google docs, Pixton for Fun, Visme and Canva, with guidance from Dr. Watson and clients from LexisNexis.

Project : Situated Biology

Description:


The long-term goal is to get students excited about STEM research and the biodiversity around them. In a 2-3 year period, we expect this website to be used in at least 1 mandatory introductory-level science course in each of the participating universities.  By having students actively engage with campus ecosystems using ‘citizen science’ throughout the semester, Dr. Gates hopes to promote research in the STEM field while also collecting data that researchers can study. Dr. Gates also believes that by pushing NCSU and ECU students to participate in actual science, they will develop a sense of self-efficacy that will promote their involvement in the STEM field.

The Prototypes were mainly built using Balsamiq, Google docs, slides, and basic image editing software. With guidance from Dr. Watson and Dr. Gates (client), we have designed this website.

Description:

The art of digital presentation has been quite the same since last 30 years. So the initial idea of the project was to brainstorm and create new age tools that can improve the situations that are poorly served by Powerpoint, using not only today's technologies, but also technologies that we can expect soon in the future. After several discussion sessions with Dr. Watson and Turner Whitted we have developed a platform that will overcome the limitations that traditional presentation shows have by providing both audience and presenter, with a collaborative, interactive and user adaptive environment.

Project: Doctor-Patient with Allscripts

Description:
The goal of this project is to improve doctor-patient communication with involvement of better user experience. We followed UX project flow of mapping the problem, generating ideas, choosing the better ones, prototyping it using tools and getting feedback from people about prototype. We discussed with Allscripts team and Dr. Watson in all these phases for guidance. We designed prototype for Doctor-Patient appointment improvements using an application that can be installed in tablets/ cellphones. This application effectively provides the facts, observations, conclusions and further steps necessary that should involve in every Doctor-Patient appointment details with timeline view for better visualisation and provision for scheduling next appointments. This is easy to use and mobile-responsive high fidelity prototype.

Project: #Selfcare with Allscripts

Description: 
The initial idea of this project was to design a solution for helping patients (users) own their health concerns. Over the various phases and discussion with our clients we came up with Fit-O-Matic; an app designed to help college students manage their health goals be it maintaining weight, shedding that extra pound or gaining some muscles. One of our main focuses was to have innovative yet easy-to-use app which didn’t require user to get burdened with filling out long forms or maintain cumbersome diet logs. Fit-O-Matic also offer food suggestions, as well as notifications.

Project : Conversation Cloud Team-2

Project Description:
We have created a prototype for a mobile application. The basic idea behind the application is that you can record a conversation and based on the conversation you generate visually pleasing cues that can help you recall the conversation. We also worked on scalability(dealing with large number of conversations) of the product by providing ability to link similar conversations, navigation from one conversation to another etc. We provided options to search on the basis of various criteria such as: Topic, Date Time, People involved in conversation etc. We also provided prototype for representing nonlinear conversation.

Project: ConversationCloud (team 1)

We are involved in a lot of different conversations with a horde of people on a daily basis. But, isn't it frustrating when you cannot remember the name of that restaurant that your friend gushed about so much last week? Conversation cloud is a mobile application that helps people remember conversations through visual souvenirs. Any conversation you have can be recorded and stored in the application and on the basis of the ideas discussed in the conversation, the app generates sketches that depict the conversation. The app also categorizes the conversations as per topics, time, people involved or location. Another cool feature is auto-tagging that tags conversations on the basis of its contents and even groups together chats with similar tags.
